We are thrilled to announce the inaugural year of a new Christmas Bird Count circle centered on Baltimore City! As Audubon recommends, we will be conducting the count as a trial run this year with the intention of officially registering it with Audubon next year. Birders of all levels of expertise or experience are welcome and urged to participate in this national winter bird census. The area being surveyed is a 15-mile diameter circle centered just west of Baltimore Harbor, encompassing the majority of the city as well as portions of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties. Important urban birding hotspots such as the harbor, Patterson Park, Druid Hill Park, Masonville Cove, Fort Armistead, Southwest Area Park, and many others will be captured in this special CBC that celebrates urban birding. The CBC is a count of all birds seen or heard in the count circle, and participants will be assigned to a birding spot(s) either on their own or with other birders according to their preference.
