Paper Mill Flats is one of the best places in Baltimore County to see migratory shorebirds, herons, waterfowl, and other early migrants. We’ll start with a walk along the first 1/2 mile of the NCR trail to a spot known as Ashland Flats, another good spot for shorebirds, before heading to Paper Mill Flats. After returning to the parking lot, we’ll drive a short distance (1 mile) to the Paper Mill Flats trailhead. The trail is short and flat (1/2 mile total) but can be uneven and narrow, so consider your footwear. The flats are large, and a spotting scope is recommended but not necessary. Trip limited to 15. RSVP to leader required.
