Virtual Meeting: Allegany/Garrett Bird Club

January 12, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Claire Nemes, Ph.D Candidate, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science Appalachian Lab will speak on “On the right track: New technologies and classic techniques for studying bird migration.” Researchers have been using various approaches to study bird migration for centuries, but recent developments in wildlife tracking technologies mean that we have now entered a “golden age of bio-logging.” Using a combination of these techniques, scientists can study the activities of small migrants throughout the year as they make spectacular intercontinental journeys. Claire will give an overview of these exciting tracking technologies and will discuss how they can help us answer important questions about bird migration biology and conservation, including examples from her research as a Ph.D. student working with Dr. Emily Cohen at the UMCES Appalachian Lab.

Prior to the meeting, the Google Meets link will be shared in a Bird Club email. For the phone number and pass code please contact Raquel Ketterman at 301-268-6746.
