Tuesday Evening Lecture: Birdsong and Musical Composition

September 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Host:

Baltimore Bird Club.

Speaker: Brad Balliett.

Description:

From Vivaldi and Beethoven to Messiaen and the Beatles, composers are naturally drawn to birdsong as a source of inspiration and material for an array of masterpieces. Composer Brad Balliett will give a brief history of birdsong and music, and share some current techniques for how composers are looking at birdsong, illuminating how these works can help birdwatchers get to know bird songs in a more deep and intimate way. Brad will also share tips for Digiscoping, a low-cost way to get effective and high-quality photos and videos of birds in the field. Brad’s compositions have been commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the International Contemporary Ensemble, and his bird videos have been featured on national and international news.
