Description:
“What 20 Years of Bird Banding Has Taught Us” with Maren Gimpel.
We are all aware that the numbers of birds and species we see on trips or at our feeders are changing. So come and listen to what Maren Gimpel has to say on the subject. She is in the front lines of the efforts to learn what is happening to our birds, by banding birds for migratory and breeding studies. This ‘lady of the mist nets’ has much to say that that will help us understand some of the changes we are already seeing.
Maren Gimpel is Field Ecologist and Outreach Coordinator at the Chester River Field Research Station at Chino Farms, overseen by Washington College’s Center for Environment & Society where she bands birds for both migratory and breeding studies. A bander since 2002 and a birder for over 25 years, Maren compiles the local Chesterville Christmas Bird Count. Before coming to Washington College, she worked on avian research projects from Nova Scotia to Tobago.
