Description:
Baltimore’s version of Central Park is a migrant magnet, and there’s no better time to visit than early May. When northbound travelers fly up the Patapsco, the first–and practically the only–green space they find is Patterson Park. Weary from a long night’s flight, passerines descend upon the park in droves post-sunrise to refuel for the next night of their journey. Virtually every species of flycatcher, vireo, thrush, and warbler that passes through Maryland each spring can be found in Patterson during the first half of May. After scouring the park for these colorful visitors, we’ll swing by nearby Thames Park to check on the progress of the small colony of Black-crowned Night Herons which have nested in this highly unusual setting for a number of years. RSVP required.
